Clean and Screen

Sunscreen. You know should wear it, but do you know you should wear it every day? Sure, it is more obviously needed during the sunny Spring and Summer months but the truth is, your skin is exposed to varying degrees of harmful rays every day of the year. Your skin can be more exposed by daily outside activities such as running errands, than it can by hanging about at a beach a few days out of the year.

It often happens that even when the weather forecast calls for three days of rain, the one day you decide to not put sunscreen on your face (or hands) is the day the sun will make an unexpected and mostly welcome, appearance. So even if you are 100% positive there will be zero rays hitting you, slather on a bit of sunscreen just as insurance. There are an increasing number of really good sunscreen products so there really is no excuse not to wear one.

Here’s one that is especially noteworthy: St. Ives Elements has a sunscreen that is a skin cleanser. Or is it a skin cleanser that is a sunscreen? Here’s how Protective Elements works: Moisten your face with water, apply liberally the creamy cleanser, dispensed from a pump, over your face with your fingertips, lathering in for 1 to 2 minutes. (Avoid the eye area, of course.) Rinse with water and pat dry.

Now your face is protected with an SPF 10 UVA/UVB sunscreen that worked its way onto your face while you were washing it. You can apply an additional stronger sunscreen, but at least if you forget, you have given your face some protection against harmful rays.

  1. This is a wonderful idea! Too many days I forget to apply sunscreen to my face. Now if I use this, I know I will have some protection. Thanks!

  2. This is amazing. Now I can be sure that my face is protected even if I forget to put on sunscreen, which happens often.
